The Smallest LCD of the Brand
Presented in Japan in early May, Sony have launched, onto the European market for Ultra-Portables video projectors, the first projector combining LCD and Memory Stick technology.
Even though the VPL-CX3 should be on the shop shelves in the next week or so in Europe, we propose that you discover the machine via the Press Release that the brand has sent to professionals in the marketplace.
PRESS RELEASE
Sony Broadcast & Professional Europe has increased its market-leading projector line-up with the addition of the VPL-CX3, bringing further versatility to an already highly adaptable range.
The VPL-CX3 is the first projector to make use of Sony Memory StickTM technology, enabling stored presentations to be played by the machine and eliminating the need to take a laptop everywhere. Software supplied with the projector unit features a ‘drag and drop’ system to place presentations into the projector’s memory stick – a function that can be performed from a wide variety of systems. Alternately, presentations can be uploaded to the Memory StickTM directly via an USB connection. Shows can then be manipulated using the VPL-CX3’s remote control – a new version of the Sony standard that can also be used as a wireless mouse.
The VPL-CX3 brings a list of new innovations to the Sony projector range, particularly the re-engineered front cover that now features stereo speakers, as well as acting as a lens protector during transit and a control panel once open.
An Autorun option has been included – the machine will independently play an assigned presentation from the Memory StickTM – ideal for exhibitions or public spaces. The unit can also be used as a JPEG viewer when connected to a digital camera.
At 2.5 Kg, it is one of the lightest machines available and the most compact unit in the Sony line-up. It is also the slimmest on the market – standing at only 65mm high. Although compact, the model offers XGA quality projection to 900 ANSI Lumen – ideal for daylight situations.
A new cooling mechanism keeps fan noise to a minimum (the lowest in its class) and re-positioned air vents allow the unit to sit flat during presentations.
The introduction of the VPL-CX3 fills the gap in the Sony line-up for a hi-performance ultra-portable XGA projector. It will sit alongside the SVGA version, the VPL-CS3. The VPL-CX3 shares the same clean, neat lines that have become a hallmark of the Sony projector range, and in many cases it retains the usability features of the other models, such as the keystone reduction facility, the 4X zoom option and the plug-and-play ease when working with a variety of input sources.
Martin van der Goot, General Marketing Manager Sony Display Europe, commented on the new product: “The VPL-CX3 addresses two key issues facing the ultra-portable projector range – size and power. To make the LCD projector a viable business tool it has to be compact, which we’ve achieved, with the added bonus of “PC-free” functionality. But size has not been reduced at the expense of power – the brightness and resolution of the VPL-CX3 is one of its main selling points.”
As with all the Sony projectors, purchase is backed up by one year’s prime support for countries in the EU, Switzerland and Norway.
This includes loan of an alternate unit within 24 hours should a problem develop, multi-language phone support and an optional three year warranty extension.
The VPL-CX3 is available for a price of around 4150 Euros (Not including VAT). You can find it on www.sonypresentation.com, or through approved distributors.
