InFocus announced in a press release on June 5th, 2001 the upcoming release of two new projectors - the LP290 and the LP340B which use LCD and DLP technologies respectively.
INFOCUS LP 290
With this new projector, InFocus is targetting a new type of consumer. Their goal is to popularize the « family » video projector by marketing a product with an excellent price-value relationship.
The LP 290 has a last generation LCD matrix, a 150 watt lamp, and a contrast ratio of 400:1 that allows it to diffuse an image with a brightness of 1100 lumens. Considered the « ultra-portable » the LP 290 can be used in many different ways, whether professional, domestic, or occasional, and can be used in « table » or « ceiling » mode. The LP 290 comes with an infrared remote control and will be available in the United States in June at the price of 3999 $.
INFOCUS LP 340B
As opposed to what certain actors on the market let believe, the DLP technology has not stopped evolving - once again InFocus has subcontracted Texas instruments for micro-chips (0.7 inch DMD).
Although a lighter version of the LP 340, the LP 340B is just as attractive. Despite its small price (2999$) this latest machine is destined to the smaller-budget consumer just like the LP 290.
The hign precision electronics of the LP 340B (150 watt UHP lamp, DMD matrix …), allow it to handle images in 4/3 or 16/9 formats and reach a maximum brightness of 1300 lumens and a contrast ratio of 300:1.
It is important to note that both machines also include a very complete connection circuit with a choice of inputs from composite, S-Video, Rs232, and Dvi.
These two projectors will be available in June 2001 (in the US first) and rumors have it that another « little bomb » is on its way....
