KEF KHT 2005

She’s a Beauty!

The company Kef has been marketing a 5.1 pack in the USA since early March: The KHT 2005. Made-up of an active subwoofer (PSW 2000) and five identical ana-magnetic satellites (ref. HTS 2001), this newcomer to the catalogue of the American manufacturer was developed keeping in mind those looking for high performance audio at an affordable price.

The kit will no doubt find its way into many living rooms thanks to its dimensions - 198(H) x 130(L) x 150(P) mm.

Each satellite has a brushed metal finish integrating a single speaker composed of an aluminium cone. The manufacturer has covered the surface with a 10 cm thick polypropylène membrane – ultra strong and ultra light – allowing for the reproduction of a very broad sound spectrum (80 Hz / 20 kHz).

In terms of power, each speaker has a reasonable punch, delivering 100 watts .

The active subwoofer (PSW 2000) is also of modest dimensions (a little more than 30 cm across). It includes a 20-cm speaker aimed at the floor, accompanied by a 150 watts amplifier. Furthermore, we note that Kef have taken over management of close charges through the entire functioning of the companies Sunfire and Rel a procedure allowing for a clean and frank reproduction of bass notes, although the full power of the beast doesn’t cause the speakers to saturate. It should also be noted that cut-off frequencies from 35 Hz à 150 Hz, allow the speaker to put out good sound despite its small size.

Only one finish is proposed – a beautiful black lacquered finish accompanied with green, and tapered legs reminding one somewhat of the satellites.

The KHT 2005 has been available in the USA since the month of March 2001, at a price of 1750 US$.
