ADCOM - GTP 760

GTP 760 Pre-amp. / Tuner

The company Adcom, specialists in the manufacture of separate Hi-Fi and Home Cinema products, has just launched a pre-amplifier onto the market, dedicated to multi-channel installations for dedicated sound buffs.

Designed in the strictest respect of sound processing technology norms, the GT 760 includes all the latest innovations in terms of audio decoding and conversion. With High Fidelity in mind, the Analogue/Digital audio conversion section is equipped with a series of converters developed by Motorola, able to transform, without compromise, an audio stream quantified at 16 or 20 bits into 24 bits. These converters have a extraordinary capacity for processing, managing more than 100 million pieces of information per second...

This process is a little like that developed by Denon: the AL 24.

In the realms of DSP, a chip, also developed by Motorola, handles the processing of three sound effects: jazz, stadium and symphony hall. Goes to show, Adcom had really chosen to “gadgetise” this latest model!

Everything has been taken into consideration: the GT 760 is capable of receiving and transporting DVD audio signals – but note that a DVD audio player is necessary, decoding the signals at the source before sending them on.

Like any self-respecting processor, the digital section is capable of managing (extremely well) Dolby Digital and DTS signals, emanating from DVD or Laser Discs.

The built-in interfacing is more than complete: for the audio section, the GTP 760 can handle inputs from 6 analogue and 3 digital machines (this, with two coaxial and one optical input). In addition, it can be linked to an external decoder, thanks to a 5.1 output, allowing for evolution towards other multi-channel audio formats.

For the video section, there are composite and S-video plugs, with, respectively, 3 and 5 inputs. What’s regrettable is the absence of connections in YUV, that most manufacturers tend to include nowadays.

Currently available in the USA at a price of $1800, the GTP 760 has to be combined with a 6 channel power amplifier, as this pre-amplifier doesn’t dispose of a Surround EX extension.

NB: Note that a very powerful tuner is included, allowing for the memorisation of some 40 FM stations’ frequencies.
