Memory, Graphics and CPU Specifics
The second new feature is the expanded memory capacity – boosted to 8 Mb – unfortunately not upgradeable. Some rumours speak of the fact that Philips could propose inclusion (as with digital cameras and personal organisers) of a storage module incompact flash or smart card format.
As we had announced, the graphic characteristics remain the same: a mini colour touch pad with a resolution of 240 x 320 replacing the monochrome version of the Pronto.
The main processor is also a certainty: reference MC69VZ320, it runs at 33 Mhz and replaces the subaltern which was only rated at 16 Mhz. Some celebrations are in perspective...
Availability and Price.
Availability for the moment is undefined by the brand. The Prontopro will without doubt be commercialised from April or June 2001, with the lateness being explained by its new characteristics.
The only sour point – the price, situated around $1,000 - without the RF transmission option. It should nevertheless be said that this little technological marvel constitutes a serious competitor, capable of rocking the boat with such names as Lexicon and other remote controls of the same ilk.
