For the occasion of the CEDIA 2000, Philips presented, as a world first, their future touch screen remote control. Named the TSU2000 or Prontopro (the final version doesn't yet have a definitive name) it opens the way for a whole new generation of infrared remote controls with LCD screens.
Ergonomics
Aiming towards evolution and increased functionality, the manufacturer decided to rethink its ergonomics: from this, a larger LCD screen, integrating a colour matrix (216 colours). The resolution reaches 320 x 240 pixels (as opposed to 320 x 200 for the pronto or the other RC5000).
As for the former, it conserves its upgradeability, thanks to a RS 232 PC connection, as well as a silver finish.
Developed Memory
Philips have opted, right from the start, for a 4 Mo non saturated memory (compared to 2 Mo for the old generation). This allows for the integration of a more efficient operating programme, with more functions. This will doubtless guarantee a greater ease of utilisation. br>
Price and Availability
Sold complete with a charger base, the TSU2000 will be priced in the USA between $400 and $500. It will be available during the first quarter of 2001.
