The young British consumer electronics brand, i-box , has just launched Trax, a new portable Bluetooth speaker for smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs, that is small and lightweight yet rugged offering hand-held portability with ease of use and high-quality sound. The distinctive Trax design makes this model stand out in what is becoming a crowded Bluetooth speaker market, but there is more inside than meets the eye.

Delivering powerful sound (6 W RMS ouptut) from such a compact portable speaker – Trax measures just 60 × 160 × 55mm (HxWxD) and weighs only 317g – is achieved using a 2.1 speaker configuration, with compact 38mm twin speaker drivers combined with a passive low frequency subwoofer, offering balance between performance and portability for audio on-the-go.

An aluminium touch-sensitive control panel allows users to adjust volume level, pause and skip tracks without touching their phone/tablet, and a hands-free speaker-phone facility adds additional flexibility when paired with a smartphone. The speaker’s premium build quality with rubberised ‘caterpillar track’ surround ensures rugged reliability.

Trax offers up to ten hours playback from its rechargeable Lithium battery. NFC (Near Field Communication) technology adds further convenience, delivering instant Bluetooth pairing with compatible devices. Wireless range is up to 10 metres.
The package includes a USB cable for battery recharging, as well as an audio cable to allow connection of non-Bluetooth enabled music devices. As i-box makes its own cable range, they claim their cable is higher quality than the “standard” ones often packaged with similarly priced Bluetooth speakers.
