Responding to customer concerns that the new Lightning Connector with Apple’s latest iPod and iPhone models is not always compatible with existing docks and music systems, Southend-based Ruark Audio has announced a simple, yet smart, solution.

Ruark’s device, the LAS (Lightning Adaptor Support) allows the company’s own R2i and R4i models to work with Apple’s new generation iDevices as well as earlier iPod and iPhone models. The LAS is even compatible with products from other manufacturers that feature Apple’s Universal Dock.

Ruark Audio’s Lightning Adaptor Support combines with Apple’s own Lightning to 30-pin adaptor inside its casing and incorporates a polished stainless steel support bar to reduce strain on the connector when using the iDevice touch-screen. A clear protective band on the support bar provides extra grip and also ensures the back of the Apple device doesn’t get scratched during use.

Care has also been taken with aesthetics so that when fitted the LAS integrates with the host unit to look like it belongs there, rather than seem like an ugly and unnecessary bolt-on.

How the LAS works

Ruark Audio’s Lightning Support Adaptor will be on sale from mid-February from most Ruark Audio dealers with a retail price of £8. Apple’s Lightning to 30-pin adaptor currently retails in the UK for £25 and is available directly from Apple and through many Apple retailers.
