Onkyo’s third Spotify ready AV receiver

Onkyo has announced the latest in its line of Spotify-enabled AV receivers with the TX-NR809.

Following the £500 TX-NR609 and the £800 TX-NR709, TX-NR809 offers 7.2-channels each with 180 watts and comes with THX Select2 Plus certification and ISF video calibration.

It will decode all high-definition surround sound formats and includes Dolby Pro-Logic IIz and Audyssey DSX. It also has eight HDMI inputs, two HDMI outputs (for connecting to a range of displays), 3D video support and an Audio Return Channel.

It can power two separate zones and there are also 7.2 channel preamp outputs.

Internet connection is via Ethernet offering access not just to Spotify, but also Last.fm and Napster subscription music services, plus internet radio via vTuner and network audio streaming from a PC or media server.

Audio format support includes MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC and LPCM, as well as compatibility withWindows 7 and DLNA 1.5 networking.

On-board video processing is courtesy of HQV Vida VHD1900 and Qdeo technology by Marvell, with video upscaling to 1080p.

A USB input on the front offers a direct digital connection of a USB flash drive or iPod/iPhone. Another USB port on the back is intended for Onkyo’s optional UWF-1 wireless adapter.

The Onkyo TX-NR809 will be available in late May for £1,000.
