Online retailing giant Amazon has launched its Cloud Drive storage and streaming service in the US.
The new service allows its users to access a virtual hard disk in the cloud, allowing them to remotely store music, videos, photos and other files.
Music and video can then be played back via the Cloud Player for Web on any internet-connected computer. It can also be accessed on the move via the Cloud Player for Android on an Android mobile phone.
The Cloud Drive offers a basic 5GB of free storage, with up to 1,000GB available for an annual subscription.
Content bought directly from Amazon doesn’t count as part of the storage allowance, and for each CD album bought from Amazon an additional 20GB of free storage will be added for a year from the date of purchase.
The service has just been launched in the US, but there’s no word yet on when it will be coming to the UK.
