IFA 2010: Philips launches 21:9 3D TV

7 septembre 2010

Philips has launched the world’s first 3D TV to feature a cinema proportion 21:9 aspect ratio at the IFA technology fair in Berlin.

Improving on last year’s debut version of the extra wide 21:9 TV, the new 58in LCD Cinema 21:9 Platinum Series will display 2D or 3D images in 2.39:1 cinema dimensions, without the need for letterboxing at top and bottom or stretching.

The 58in Cinema 21:9 TV will include Perfect Pixel HD processing, three-sided Ambilight surround mood lighting, LED Pro, 400Hz and ‘multiview’ technology. This last feature offers viewers a picture-in-picture view what’s on Philips’s NetTV service while still watching TV.

The Cinema 21:9 Platinum Series is expected to go on sale before the end of the year at a cost of around £4,000.
