Philips Fidelio DS9000

Philips’ new Fidelio DS9000 iPod dock features an acoustically designed wooden cabinet and promises audiophile sound quality.

The casing is made from several layers of lacquered plywood which are then bent into the finished curved shape. This ‘Veneer Lamination’ technology results in a cabinet that’s 1.2cm deep, and the natural stiffness of the material and curved shape reduces the possibility of vibrations while at the same time minimising the risk of internal reflections and standing waves.

Inside are two 4in inverted dome woofers, each in their own, separate 3.4-litre chamber, two 1in dual ring-radiator diaphragm tweeters made from silk and copper-clad aluwire and “audiophile grade” digital-to-analogue conversion and crossovers.

Philips’ own PureDigital sound processing technology offers a digital connection for iPod or iPhone and the sound can be tuned using a free Fidelio+ app which gives five preset equaliser options. A remote control handset is also supplied.

Bass pipes are used to tune the low-end frequencies and there’s a built-in alarm clock as well as a proximity sensor for the controls, and a flexible mount for the personal player, which even can be used if your iPod or iPhone is in a case.

The Philips Fidelio DS9000 is available now for £400.
