Samsung has beaten its rivals to the distinction of launching the first 3D TV on sale in the UK with the 40in UE40C7000, available in John Lewis for £1,800 from today (22nd Apr).
Since content is still in extremely short supply, John Lewis is also offering Samsung’s BDC6900 3D Blu-ray player for £349, as well as a special ‘3D Starter Kit’ bundle including two pairs of Samsung active-shutter 3D glasses and Monsters vs Aliens 3D Blu-ray disc if you buy TV and player together, or for £149 on its own. There’ll also be a 3D-Ready, HDMI 1.4 cable available for £50. The offers will run until the end of June.
John Kempner, John Lewis’s buyer for vision, said: “3D TV is an incredibly exciting technology, and once again John Lewis is first to market. Manufacturers like to use us as their launch partner because our customers are always early adopters of new technology.” He added, “I can see a time when all large screen TVs (above 32in) sold by John Lewis will be 3D-ready – possibly in about two to three years time.”
