As part of its ongoing splurge of TV products, LG has demonstrated its 15in OLED TV at this week’s Gadget Show Live in Birmingham.
The LG 15EL9500 will be the largest commercially available OLED screen available in the UK and boasts an exceptionally thin 3mm frame. It also promises a high contrast ratio of 10,000,000: 1 while also being more energy efficient than LCD or plasma screens. With no backlight, it should be able to deliver deeper blacks against stronger, more vibrant colours and it also claims to be water-resistant allowing it to be mounted in kitchen or even bathroom.
The screen is HD Ready 720p with built in digital Freeview and includes a USB 2.0 input for movie playback. It also has LG’s Trumotion 100Hz technology offering a rapid response time of 0.1msec.
LG’s Stephen Gater said: “OLED really is the future of television screens and LG is proud to be the market leader when it comes to this breakthrough technology. This will be the first time the LG OLED is displayed in the UK and we’re confident this innovative and style-conscious set will grab the attention of anyone looking for the next top-of-the-line gadget.’
The LG 15EL9500 goes on sale later this month, price expected to be somewhere between £1,500-£2,000.
