3D TV's down the pub with LG and Sky

LG and Sky are hoping to be first to bring 3D TV to the UK this weekend. Sunday’s match between Arsenal and Manchester United will be shown at nine pubs across the UK and Ireland, though they’re not saying which ones yet. The 3D action will be shown on LG’s new 47-inch LD920 3D TV, due for official release in April.

LG’s 3D system is the passive variety with a polarised screen and the lower cost glasses used by cinemas rather the active type with more expensive battery-powered 3D glasses, which shutter images between the left and right eye at high-speed.

Stephen Gater, head of marketing, Home Entertainment LG UK, said: “LG is committed to making high quality TV more accessible and this initiative with Sky does just that.”

He added, “2010 will see the realisation of many exciting technologies in TVs – 3D is just one of them. With exciting developments like these, watching television in the home will soon be an even more exciting, immersive and powerful experience.”
