Following the launch of its high-end CD-777 CD player last year, Abingdon Music Research has unveiled a matching amplifier, the AM-777.
The integrated amplifier (which AMR is calling a ‘pre-main’ design) is an evolution of the company’s ‘reference class’ AM-77 and utilises both valve and solid state technology to provide what the company describes as the “same unique sonic DNA as its larger sibling”.

The 60-watts-per-channel stereo amp includes AMR’s own OptiGain circuitry with valve/bi-polar devices and digital-to-analogue conversion via a USB input. The onboard preamp has four line inputs, one paralleled with XLR connections, pre-out sockets and an ultra-precise 71-step volume control. The power amp combines valves in the voltage-gain stage with current gain handled by solid-state technology using bi-polar devices.
The AM-777 uses separate transformers for the valve and solid state elements and it can be switched to operate as an integrated amp, separate preamp and power amp, or even as a monoblock power amp.
The AM-777 is on sale now for around £3,200.
