US manufacturer Klipsch has revealed two new surround sound speaker packages, the HD Theatre 300 and 500.
The HD Theatre 500 is a 5.1-channel system finished in high gloss piano black with each of the satellites housing a 2.5in IMG mid/bass driver and MicroTractrix horn-loaded 0.75in aluminium dome tweeter. The magnetically shielded centre channel has the same internal set-up, but packs in a brace of mid/bass drivers.
Each of the satellites can be stand or wall mounted, and come with adjustable wall brackets for a 40-degree motion range. The centre channel sits in its own cradle base. Last, but far from least, is the black pica vinyl finish subwoofer, which features a bass-reflex design with flared bass port to the rear and a down-firing 8in driver.
The HD Theatre 300 system uses textile rather than aluminium tweeters with the same configuration of 2.5in IMG mid/bass drivers and MicroTractrix horn-loaded 0.75in dome tweeters. Once again, all come with wall mount brackets and comes with its own cradle bass.
The subwoofer is the big difference, featuring a much smaller 6in down-firing driver.
The company’s brand president, Mike Klipsc, said: “While video technology has improved over the years, a TV’s built-in audio components will never be up to par with a true high-performance speaker system. And the slimmer the set, the more deficient the sound will be, because there’s little room to house decent built-in speakers”.
Both the HD Theatre 500 and 300 are available now for £500 and £400 respectively.
