HaiVision MAKO-HD Encoding Technology Supports 3-D Holographic Performance, Live at InfoComm

Communiqué de presse

HaiVision Network Video today announced that its advanced H.264 encoding technology will be supporting the world’s first transatlantic high-definition (HD) 3-D interactive broadcast, being showcased at InfoComm 09, June 15-19, in Orlando, Fla. “Experience a New Dimension: 3-D Holographic Projection” is a demonstration by holographic theatrical solution company Musion® Systems Limited, featuring the transmission of live, interactive holograms from London and Montreal to the Orange County Convention Center, where life-size 3-D images will be displayed on a rock concert-style stage.

“The realization of 3-D holographic images, delivered live across the globe, is a remarkable and exciting achievement, and we’re very pleased that HaiVision encoding technologies are playing a key role in making it possible,” said Peter Maag, senior vice president of HaiVision Network Video. “The combination of our advanced H.264 HD encoding technology with best-of-breed solutions from Musion and other industry leaders promises to give InfoComm attendees an unforgettable show.”

The Musion show will include the first-ever “Transatlantic Busk,” in which musicians, singers, dancers, and comedians in London and Montreal perform live for Orlando audience members. Other activities include a daily streaming house of worship service from Pastor Erik Pattison and a live holographic auction hosted in London with bidders in Orlando.

The 3-D images will be created by Musion’s HD video image capture processes and patented Eyeliner™ Foil apparatus. Smooth motion will be achieved with the system’s fast frame rate of 50 interlaced frames per second, which creates the natural image edge blurring necessary for 3-D images to look realistic. HaiVision will supply transmission codecs that combine HD video compression with the lowest latency performance available, enabling two-way signal latency of fewer than 200 milliseconds — approximately six times faster than satellite.

Musion is using HaiVision’s hai1000 telepresence platform equipped with the powerful MAKO-HD H.264 HD codec. The MAKO-HD encodes up to 1080p video with an astonishing 70 milliseconds of end-to-end latency. For the transmissions, each location will have multiple stream capability from the hai1000 codec system, allowing for the numerous camera angles necessary to assure fluid interaction between remote participants.

HaiVision will be demonstrating its range of low-latency encoding solutions at InfoComm Booth 2979. Conference attendees can register for the 3-D demonstration, which will run every 30 minutes on June 17, 18, and 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at infocommdemo@musion.co.uk.
