AWE, the leading distributor to the UK custom installation industry, has announced details of the new PEP 2.1 (ProntoEdit Professional) software for 2-way control of the Philips Pronto range of controllers.
The software allows custom installers to easily integrate and configure system feedback and dynamic user interfaces on a Pronto control panel by selecting from a list of pre-configured modules. It includes 2-way modules from a range of partner companies, including Kaleidescape, Lutron, Denon, MCE-PC [names] and other leading brands to make system set-up and programming quick and easy.
Useful new features and improvements include:
- Greater flexibility: A new time-saving merge function merges other projects into the opened project.
- Vista 64 bit support: PEP2 now supports the Microsoft Vista 64 bit operating system.
- Direct access to project browser: An icon is available to directly select ‘Open Project’ in the project browser and gives additional information about the projects.
- Improved ‘My Database’ tabs: It’s now more intuitive to make selections within the My Database, Philips Database and Other Database tabs in the Database view.
- Activities in Gallery support IR codes: Store graphics, IR and serial codes for later reuse when a complete activity, such as ‘Watch TV’ is saved so you can just drag and drop entire devices when you reuse them. My Database is also able to handle conflicts where IR codes differ from project to project.
- Delete function for gallery items: Instead of managing gallery items via Windows Explorer, they can be deleted in PEP2.
PEP2 is the successor to ProntoEdit Professional 1 (PEP1) and can be used to configure the Pronto TSU-9400, TSU-9600 and TSU-9800 panels. Unlike PEP1, the user interface now has fixed windows with a single page view and a permanent properties overview. The ‘My Database’ concept is similar to the one in PEP1 but it’s now possible to store RS232 codes for future projects meaning time and cost savings on site.
For advanced users, a project (configuration file) can be quickly built using the ‘Quick Start Wizard’ which is another time saving tool and also takes over the tedious work! It automatically builds the tree and activity macros (based on the template that defines how the AV equipment is interconnected) and after using the wizard, it’s still possible to tweak the configuration file as required. Another significant change is the location of the Activity macros, e.g. ‘Watch DVD’ activity. The macro is now part of the Activity itself and is no longer stored on the home page buttons and a new ‘Activity Jump’ command jumps to the chosen activity and executes the macro.
