Displaytech Now Filling Production Orders for Pico Projectors

Communiqué de presse

LONGMONT, Colo.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Displaytech, a leading supplier of liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) microdisplays, announced today it is filling production orders for its family of VGA, WVGA & SVGA FLCOS microdisplays that will be integrated into both pico projectors and head-mounted displays. The pico projectors will be embedded in or attached as an accessory to personal consumer electronics by companies providing Cell Phones, PDAs, Digital Cameras, Stand-Alone Video Projectors and Personal Media Players.

Companies developing pico projectors have been strong supporters of Displaytech’s Ferroelectric-LCOS (FLCOS) microdisplays because of the microdisplays’ unique characteristics: small size, only 11.5 mm in height; low power, less than 100 mW for the FLCOS panel and its integrated display controller — thus delivering more of the available power to the LEDs; and production capabilities, over 18,000,000 FLCOS microdisplays shipped for use in personal consumer electronic products. Displaytech and its partners will be showing a number of pico projectors containing FLCOS panels in a private suite at InfoComm this week in Las Vegas. Each of these projectors demonstrates a unique capability in size, resolution or lumen output, with the ensemble of pico-projectors covering the complete gamut of pico-projector applications.

“We are very excited that we have begun filling production orders for FLCOS microdisplays, indicating to us the start of an exciting new category of consumer electronic products. Small image projectors will ignite new use models for displays and stimulate yet unthought-of applications for inexpensive, pico-sized projection displays,” said Richard Barton, CEO of Displaytech.
