German art furniture producers AM Design have revealed a range of stainless steel hi-fi furniture designs. ‘Emirate Towers’ is designed as a CD stand, Tower Bridge includes space for a TV plus storage for CDs and DVDs in the bridge’s legs, while the ‘Empire State Building’ and the latest ‘Petronas Towers’ are designed to incorporate a separates hi-fi system.
Most of the pieces are over two metres tall, feature internal lighting and are hand-made to order. A spokesman says the range, which is also available in chrome-plated standard steel, offers no particular hi-fi capabilities aside from their rigidity, but that they are designed to project an ‘exclusive appearance’. No argument there.
Iconoclastic home entertainment one-upmanship doesn’t come cheap of course – a Tower Bridge will set you back 3,824 Euros, an Empire State Building a reassuringly expensive 4,820 Euros.
