Philips has announced a new budget Blu-ray player which includes some of the latest hi-def technology for just £169. The BDP3000 is a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player incorporating BD Live and delivers HD films at 1080p 24fps full HD resolution, as well as upscaling standard DVDs to ‘near 1080p HD quality’.
The player also features Dolby TrueHD7.1 surround sound decoding, so delivering extremely high quality uncompressed audio. However there’s no onboard decoding for DTS-HD.
It’s a sleek-looking, slimline machine measuring 44×6×31cm (WxHxD), and comes in high-gloss black only. Connections include HDMI, composite, component, digital coaxial and analogue phono outputs, as well as USB and Ethernet sockets. Standby power is an eco-friendly 0.5W, and it can also view DivX and JPEG files, as well as playing MP3 music files on CD. In addition, x.v.Colour technology promises to bring more natural colour to HD camcorder videos. Philips’ Easylink system allows it to be operated along with other Philips devices by a single remote control.
The Philips BDP3000 is available now for £169.
