Yamaha have won the ‘New York Radio Programming and Promotions Awards’ for Yamaha download.
Yamaha Download , presented by BBC Radio 2’s Richard Allinson delivers a international guest list usually only associated with the best network radio. From regular live music sessions and gear demo’s, to interviews with the highest profile players from across the globe. Recent guests include Jamie Cullum, Paolo Nutini,Little Boots, Joe Bonamassa, Elbow’s Richard Jupp and Keane’s Tim Rice Oxley .
Commenting on receiving the award and conceiving the Yamaha Download , Yamaha UK’s Professional Music Division Sales and Marketing Director, Ricci Hodgson said “I’m delighted by this award as it substantiates the direction we’re taking. I love nothing more than to listen to the artists that aspire me talking about their music, how they come up with the ideas for a song and their favourite piece of Yamaha kit. It’s a great formula and we love doing it. The Band for a Grand concept came about from the desire to give unsigned bands some exposure – our ambition is definitely to launch the next Coldplay from the Yamaha Download.”
As well as great guests the Yamaha Download has also given birth to the acclaimed ‘Band For a Grand’ project where unsigned artists are given the opportunity to record one of their own songs with a ‘budget’ of only just one thousand pounds worth of Yamaha instruments. The project has proved hugely popular amongst unsigned acts and an on-line vote is planned for the Autumn which will produce a shortlist of the most popular bands who will then be invited to perform a showcase gig event at a London venue. The winners will then be given time to record in a top UK studio, voters could also win a thousand pounds worth of Yamaha equipment.
