B&W sound system for new Jaguar XJ

Bowers & Wilkins has designed a bespoke sound system for the upcoming luxury Jaguar XJ, which is likely to be seen rolling a tad smugly off the forecourts next year.

The system is an extension of the optional system which B&W developed for the midrange (by Jaguar standards) XF series. Early reports say that the system boasts 1,200 watts of amplification, with no less than 20 B&W speakers, as well as a touch-operated media hub with two USB ports for iPods and other sources, plus stereo Bluetooth audio streaming.

The car, which has had a makeover from past XJs, and instead takes its styling cues from the XF with more efficient streamlining, had its grand unveiling at the Saatchi Gallery in London last night by US chat show host Jay Leno.

Matt Jones, audio specialist in the Jaguar design team said: “We wanted an audio system with no compromise, that could transparently play back faithful reproduction of any material, any music, any voices, any instruments. It plays any type of music, perfectly, in any position in the vehicle, and that’s just amazing.”
