Dinosaur Jr album too loud?

14 juillet 2009

Veteran noise rock group Dinosaur Jr have taken the unusual step of recalling the European CD version of their new album Farm – because it’s too loud. The band is famous for their excessive volume at live shows, and their use of feedback and distortion on record, but a studio glitch at the mastering stage of the CD transfer resulted in too much noise even for them.

A spokesman for the group said that while duplicating the original master, the software program ‘doubled’ the sound layers, resulting in a 3dB increase in the overall sound volume and an unacceptable level of distortion. Fans who bought a copy of the album with the bar code number 5414939004926, can go to http://media.pias.com/dinosaurjrfarmcd where they will find instructions on how to exchange their copy free of charge. The band are reportedly ’bummed’ by the incident and have offered a free ringtone of the single Over It to fans who return their faulty CD.
