Pioneer To Stop Production Of LaserDisc Players

15 janvier 2009

Pioneer have announced that they will stop production of their current LaserDisc Players. Not that many people thought that they were still being made but after 29 years the time to cease production has come.

Currently three models are still being made and Pioneer say they will “maintain the spare parts required to restore the normal functions of Pioneer LD players”

A total of 3000 more machines will be made, adding to the 9.5m LD players it’s sold worldwide and then that will be the end.

LaserDisc was always great on sound but picture did not match up to the DVD format. The Pioneer DVL 909 was one of the most popular players in the late 90’s playing both DVD and LaserDisc.

In Japan Four Pioneer players are still on sale with the DVL-919 DVD/LD combi the CLD-R5 LD/CD machine, and two karaoke units, the DVK-900 and DVL-K88.
