Onkyo today announced the release of two new multi channel AV receivers. The Onkyo TX-SR806 is a 7×180w multichannel, THX Ultra2 Plus multichannel receiver with onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master, and all for £800.
The less powerful TX-SR706 has THX Select2 and has a power handling of 7×160w, plus decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master, and retails at £600.
If you have a none HD source both models have video upscaling and upconversion via component to 1080i using Faroudja’s DCDi Cinema chipset.
The TX-SR806 has five HDMI 1.3a inputs and the SR706’s has four. Both models get 192Khz/24-bit Cirrus Logic DACs for all channels, and twin Texas Instruments Aureus 32-bit DSP chips for digital audio processing.
The TX-SR-806 is Onkyo first AV receiver to obtain THX Ultra2 Plus certification, which is designed for use in larger rooms up to 85 cubic metres, and at a screen distance of up to 3.66m (12 feet).
It also includes THX Loudness Plus technology, which improves audio performance at reduced volumes by adjusting front-to-back speaker levels and frequency balance to ensure the highest possible level of detail and fidelity at listening volumes below the THX reference level.
