Wireless network equipment manufacturer Netgear has unveiled at CES this week a series of products based on the wireless-N protocol that it says will boost the quality of streamed audio and video around the home.
According to Netgear, the new RangeMax products will deliver faster wireless networking speeds over long ranges due to the utilisation of the new draft 2.0 version of the 802.11n wireless protocol.

Additionally, the devices will support simultaneous support for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies which will boost the amount of channels available; and new “metamaterial” antennas that are smaller and can be placed closer together without causing signal confusion.
Vivek Pathela, vice president of product marketing at Netgear, said: “With the growing availability of network-connected devices and appliances that are being adopted to support a seemingly never-ending array of new internet-based applications, consumers need network infrastructure solutions that set up easily and then work invisibly and reliably to provide whole-home coverage with high performance to support current and future applications.”
The products include RangeMax dual band Wireless-N router (WNDR3300), Wireless-N gigabit router (WNR3500), 5 GHz Wireless-N HD access point/bridge (WNHDE111), HD/gaming 5 GHz Wireless-N networking kit (WNHDEB111) and dual-band Wireless-N USB adapter (WNDA3100) .
The company also revealed new 500 GB, 750 GB, and 1TB desktop network storage devices for the ReadyNas Duo family designed for storing multimedia content in the home.
