CES 2006: Sharp: what they showed in Vegas...

11 janvier 2006

Sharp (TSE: 67530) has demonstrated a real capability to enlarge, enhance, and globally improve LCD widescreen technology. Their CES booth was a finely designed ascetic composition that radiated self-confidence. They are the prominent player in the LCD TV business, and Aquos flat TVs are now common in Occidental households. Well, Sharp doesn’t exactly come from nowhere, being a pioneer in LCD, micro-wave and… TV -they launched the first ever Japanese TV in 1953.

There's more to see...

Their flagship at the CES Expo was undoubtedly the Aquos LC-57D90U -57-inches, almost 1.5 meter- monster LCD TV. True to its reputation, it is a 1080p (1920X1080) and $16000, or about 9000 quids, display. And it delivers… the LC-57D90U stands in the high-end segment of the Sharp production. It features a Sharp’s proprietary 5-wavelength backlight system for enhanced color spectrum. Its multi-pixel technology enables an astounding 1500:1 contrast ratio. Time response is claimed to be 4ms, and Sharp has worked a lot to allow for a 176 degree viewing angle (!). It comes with dual HDMI, HD component, DVI-I and DTVLink digital interfaces.

For the professional broadcasting, the already famous 1000000:1 contrast ratio LCD monitor (see our October 2005 article here) was there as well. It is going to be demonstrated in demanding lighting conditions with picture-quality requirements. Finally, for mobile use in automobiles, Sharp is demonstrating a two-angle viewing display that lets two or more users watch two different programs that occupy the full screen of a single display simultaneously.

Sharp projector goes HD, too...

They also debut high-definition front projectors featuring the unescapable Texas Instruments DLP technology. “Sharp’s technical expertise extends beyond the flat-panel display category, and as a result we’re pleased to be launching a number of new products in our line of DLP front projectors here at CES,” Bob Scaglione, senior vice president, Consumer Electronics Marketing Group, Sharp, said. “In addition to a new 1080p flagship product, we have a number of smaller, portable projectors for a full range of offerings, so that we can open up the world of projection to many more consumers. Sharp is completely committed to maintaining a leadership position in this segment, as well,” he added.

Nice program..!
