Sharp comes in with a one-million-to-one

25 octobre 2005

It is dubbed "Advanced Super View Premium LCD" and is a "Mega Contrast" LCD displaying 1,000,000:1 and a 500cd/cm2. It measures 37 inches and supports 1920x1080 pixel resolution.

Before this blowing announcement, only the SED TV (SED is a Joint Venture between Toshiba and Canon) provided a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, which was already far above the typical LCD 1,000 to 3,000:1ratios. SED is a technology that uses the Surface-induction Electronic Emitter Display (help!)

Sharp claims that its longstanding experience in LCDs has allowed for the creation of a display that far exceeds the capacity of plasmas or organic EL devices. Typically, Sharp is primarily targeting the professional segment, especially those who use TVs and screens in darkened spaces. But it also announced its intention to bring these devices to the consumer market in the near future.
