New HD LCD range from the Eindhoven specialist
Philips has released some info about its new high-end PF9830 LCD TVs, which will be available in 32, 37, and 42-in sizes. They are all equipped with the company's "award winning" Pixel Plus 2 HD and Ambilight 2 technologies.
In addition to what they are all EICTA HD Ready compliant and will offer HDMI, DVI-I, USB 2.0 and memory card connectivity as well as component video.
The Pixel Plus 2 technology scales the incoming signal to match the display's resolution; it also adjusts individual pixels within an image so as to provide a "sharper, crisper picture". The Pixel Plus 2 HD improves resolution "by adding processing power". Philips claims that although they carry a much larger content, High Def images can be improved thanks to this enhanced processing capacity.
Philips has loaded these devices with picture noise reduction and special noise reduction for MPEG images. In addition, Digital Natural Motion combines picture resolution enrichment with motion compensation. Philips says that they improved this system in "five key areas" in order to deliver smoother images.
Ambilight 2 is the second key feature in Philips's PF9830 series, and the second generation of this backlight technology. Ambilight 2 provides a "two-channel facility which independantly projects colours from the left and the right of the screen, allowing the colour and intensity to more accurately match on-screen content." Ambilight 2 comes with four, instead of two, viewing modes (dynamic, relaxed, action and ambiance). Ambilight can be left on even when the TV is off in order to "create a unique ambiance in a room."
All models are WXGA, coming with HDMI and DVI-I inputs, component video input, two USB2.0, memory card, three Scart inputs, of which two RGB, two digital audio inputs and one digital audio output and, on the 42PF9830 only, an Ethernet port.
Last... prices: the 32PF9830 will cost you £2300, the 37PF9830 £2799, and the 42PF9830 around £3799.
