Samsung ultra wide OLED flat TV

20 juin 2005

Samsung has announced the coming of the the world’s first 40in OLED (Organic Light-emitting Diode) screen technology, apparently aiming at promoting this technology to develop "ultra-slim, ultra-sharp large TVs".

This OLED 40-inch active matrix (AM) is a world premiere, with a WXGA 1280x800 pixel wide screen. Samsung claims faster video response times with low consumption. Its 730mmx920mm mother glass represents Samsung's fourth generation OLED line. Thanks to its a-Si (amorphous silicon) technology that Samsung claims offers no limitation to production sizes unlike "classic" polysilicons, this device offers all benefits of the OLED technology: no backlight, no colour filter, wide viewing angle etc. Last but not least, it comes with 600nits brigthness, a huge 5000:1 contrast ratio, all this in a 3cm TV.

Well' keep you posted with more details when they are available.
