Sagem comes back in HDTV display market

7 mars 2005

French consortium SAGEM is well known for its mobile phone activity, and rings a bell to those acquainted with military drones, optronics, and aeronautics –it announced a friendly bid on SNECMA, the French jet engine maker at the end of last year…

But the company made a big (supersonic?) bang last year when it launched its first DLP rear projection TV. It now comes with 2 new productions at more affordable prices –although they obviously do not target your superstore promotion for the ‘TV of the week'. Two models have been revealed, the HD-L27 and the HD-D45 . the former a 27in LCD screen and the latter a 45in DLP rear projection model. Those 2 will play in the premier resolution league with an exciting 1,280 x 720 pixels . Both models boast an identical glossy-black (quite appealing) finish.

Their audio system differ, the HS27 LCD offers a 12W that will certainly not compete with your local speakers, but a Dolby Surround is available on option. The size of the HD-45 allows for an integrated sub-woofer with the same Virtual Dolby Surround option.

HD-L27

HD-D45

The HD-D45 is 345mm deep -that's why you can get a subwoofer with it with a 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution. SAGEM announces 3000:1 contrast ratio, 140۫ viewing, 700 cd/m2 brightness. In addition, it integrates a Faroudja DCDI processor for smoother displays. It is priced at ₤2,200 .

The HD-L27 is thinner -130mm. It claims 600:1 contrast ratio, 160۫ angle, and 550 cd/m2 brightness. As mentioned, its resolution is the same: 1,280 x 720 pixels. The model comes with –yes! - a photo card reader which is compatible with Memory Stick and Stick Pro, Smart Media, Secure Digital, MC card, or Compact Flash. One then uses the remote control to flip, rotate etc… price is ₤1,000 .

Another set of nice technology…
