Yamaha YSP-1 Digital Sound projector

7 février 2005

Yamaha organised today a very exciting presentation during which we could see again - after our visit at the Las Vegas CES - the new YSP-1 System.

This ‘ Digital Sound Projector ', which received an Award at the CES 2005 where it was officially launched, will be available soon in France and during March in the UK .

Of reasonable size (1030 X 190 X 113 mm or 40.52 X 7.50 X 4.50 inches , which is exactly that of a 42 inch , or (almost) exactly 1000 mm screen), the YSP-1 is a one-of-a-kind single source Multi-Channel Surround Sound Speaker to be placed above or under a video diffusion system. Quite ahead of its time, it reproduces 2.1 and 5.1 multi-channel transmission, thanks to an ‘ultra spatial' technology that focuses the sound into beams. The YSP-1 uses YAMAHA 's long proven DSP (Digital Sound Projection) and ‘Delay Time' technology using reflection of the sound on the walls in order to achieve a precise control of the delay characteristic of multiple speaker systems.

Yamaha was indeed precursory when it launched the DSP-1, which was the first Surround Audio Processor, in 1986.

Forty 2 Watts digital amplifiers drive 4 cm (40 1-3/8”) speakers and two 20 Watts drive 11cm (4-3/8”) woofers. As with most integrated system, it provides Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro-Logic 2 and DTS-Neo (cinema and music) compatibility.

A simple and intuitive OSD accessible configuration offers the possibility to customize the system as a function of the characteristic of the room.

The user will be able to connect up to five different set-ups via three digital (1 coaxial 2 optical) and two analog inputs. In addition, owners of Creston or AMX command units will be able to manage the system through an RS232 port.

The YSP-1 should be available in March 2005 at £799. It is an ideal solution for those who do not want to buy a complete set of separate 5.1 speaker systems, and avoid the fastidious and repulsive sight of wires.

Last but not least, this product opens a vast domain of future applications and we are confident that Yamaha will enrich its offer in a great variety of new proposals.
