CES, LAS VEGAS - JANUARY 5, 2005 – Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C., (Toshiba) showcased today its full line of integrated Cinema Series® HD and TheaterWide® HD television sets at CES. Toshiba's integrated HDTV line of DLP ™ and CRT digital cable ready sets are now available via retailers nationwide.
At the center of all integrated HDTV models is Toshiba's Seine™ Processor. Seine provides the processing power necessary to create the Toshiba quality picture and feature set that makes Toshiba a top player in the projection television market.
Toshiba integrated HD models come loaded with features to allow a transition into high definition television. Toshiba integrated TVs come equipped with ATSC/QAM tuners, which enable the sets to receive both digital terrestrial and digital cable broadcasts. All integrated sets also offer a CableCARD™ ( formerly POD) slot for digital cable compatibility.
To further increase user functionality, Toshiba integrated HD TVs also include TV Guide On Screen®, an Interactive Program Guide, for simple, user-friendly channel navigation. This guide is key for new TVs with Plug & Play Digital Cable capability, as the new digital cable system does not provide a guide. All integrated sets also feature two IEEE1394 ports with industry standard DTV Link capability, necessary for digital networking and recording. These models also feature the TheaterNet™ 1394/IR control system for external device control, and an OmniViewer™ Memory Card Slot that supports five different formats, with JPEG viewer for viewing of digital photos.
Toshiba also showcased its CEA Innovations Award-winning Symbio™ High Definition A/V Hard Drive Recorder (160HD4). Symbio is an external 160GB hard drive that works with the control functions in all 2004 Toshiba integrated HDTV models. There is a one-wire connection, utilizing the TV's IEEE1394 port. Symbio utilizes the TV Guide On Screen system in the TV to allow for one touch recording of both standard and high definition TV content. The TV also has controls for pausing and rewinding live TV allowing viewing flexibility.
"Toshiba is ahead of the curve again in providing the new standard in Integrated HD," said Scott Ramirez, Toshiba America Consumer Products VP, Marketing. "As almost 70% of American households get their TV signal from cable, consumers buying Integrated HD sets need CableCARD to ensure that they will receive their digital basic and premium channels. But CableCARD alone is not enough. With hundreds of available stations, they also need a guide, so that they will know what's on. And, if consumers ever want to record their favorite HD programs, they also need IEEE1394. Toshiba provides both these key features. We even offer the Symbio HD Hard Drive Recorder to complete the system. While not all manufacturers provide all of this functionality, Toshiba is committed to helping create an easier pat h to the HDTV transition.”
