Yamaha YST-SW225 subwoofer

18 janvier 2005

LAS VEGAS —Yamaha Electronics Corporation, the leader in digital audio and video reproduction, debuts the YST-SW225 Subwoofer. The YST-SW225 features Yamaha's proprietary bass enhancing technology, Quatre Dispersion Bass (QD-Bass) and Advanced Yamaha Active Servo technology (YST II). These technologies make this subwoofer the perfect addition to an existing home theater speaker system in need of a deep, rich bass response.

Yamaha's QD-Bass technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate the sound efficiently in four horizontal directions. The reflective plates negate any effects caused by the floor's surface, and reduce resonance between sound waves reflected from the floor and the unit. Standard subwoofers use circular cones that radiate in four directions to avoid the legs of the cabinet, but Yamaha's QD-Bass reduces turbulence caused by reflection from the legs, which provides for a more natural bass sound. In addition, the QD-Bass system provides extraordinary power, a smooth frequency response and sound that radiates equally in all directions from an extremely compact unit that allows greater freedom of placement.

Yamaha's Advanced YST II technology combines negative impedance and constant-current principles to drive the speaker cone with even tighter control, and improvement from its predecessor, the previous YST system. Using Advanced Negative Impedance Converter (ANIC) circuits, the YST-SW225 dynamically optimizes effective speaker impedance to maintain high-quality linearity. This effectively provides a more stable and accurate low-range response and higher sound pressure levels for more natural and energetic bass reproduction. A Linear Port provides smooth bass response and minimizes extraneous noise.

The YST-SW225 incorporates a highly efficient power amplifier that achieves high-conversion efficiency by supplying maximum power from its power transistors according to the output level, which results in stable power output with minimum power consumption and heat production greatly optimizing overall performance.

Other features include a Bass Action Selector System (BASS), which provides switching between Movie and Music modes to optimize response from each source.

This subwoofer is environmentally friendly, which means that the internal parts and circuit boards do not contain lead and that a low-power standby mode reduces power consumption to a minuscule 0.5W.

The YST-SW225 is priced at $279.95 and ships in April 2005; it can be seen during the CES 2005 show at Yamaha's booth (#9844) in the center hall, Las Vegas Convention Center , beginning January 6.
