MP3 Surround

Great News coming from The Fraunhofer Institute, at next CEBIT Show they will present a new audio Codec the MP3 Surround. This is a normal step as the evolution of their counterpart WMA, AAC, ATRAC and Ogg Vorbis are starting (or are in development) to use the 5.1 format.

They will use similar technique as the regular MP3 (storage capacity, reading speed...).

God News, the brand new mp3 surround provides a multi-channel listening experience to the mp3 user community with minimum effort and maximum compatibility (First mp3 surround software solutions are expected to be available to customers in the second quarter of 2004).

Specs:
- Full multi-channel capability (incl. 5.1 format)

- Complete backward compatibility to existing mp3 players and devices

- Data rates for multi-channel sound comparable to those for current stereo mp3
