12.1 comes standard!
Impassioned by the most stunning bits’n’bobs old Blightly has to dish up, James Bond’s latest acquisition is a bombshell – an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish equipped with an on-board 12.1 sound system.
In collaboration with LYNN, specialists in Hi-Fi and Home Cinema, the British manufacturers have decided to offer 007 the first four-wheeled machine in the world equipped with such an elaborate system. In short, this beast receives, in terms of sources, a navigation system, a DVD player, a CD jukebox, 13 amps of 75 watts and one of 75 watts for the subwoofer. All this is managed by a central processor, that takes care of the audio/video decoding as well as the control of the volume as the engine’s revs increase.
In reality, after having thought about it, one can more easily understand why there are so many amplifiers in such a small space… it’s to cover the noise of the Aston’s V12!
When it comes to speakers, Linn has called upon a new line of products. Each of the kits is built into the doors, the dash or the rear shelf. Each system is made-up of a 24 mm tweeter and a medium woofer of 13 cm. For the woofers, the system uses a simple 24 cm non ventilated cone, backing onto the car’s trunk, the same place we find the car’s on-board electronic system. The frequency response of the system is quoted at 15Hz-50kHz.
