PANASONIC DMR-E20

The Battle is Raging...

Panasonic presented, on Monday, to their Asian public, their latest DVD recorder – the DMR-E20.
This new machine stems from a new set of specifications, integrating new electronics allowing it to record data on two different DVD supports.

In fact, the DMR-E20 could, in the first instance, stock information on DVD-RAM support (the 12cm disc is housed in a protective cartridge) of a capacity of 9.7 GB, as well as on DVD-R (so-called “classic” disc), which has a storage capacity of 4.7 GB. Note that Panasonic thus have a big plus compared to their competitors for the moment, as this is the only machine with this kind of capability.

Just like all competitors’ machines already on the market, the DMR-E20 disposes of a UHF VHF tuner, allowing it to work just like a “good old” video recorder, recording programmes from the TV. On the audio side, Panasonic have chosen to integrate a Dolby decoder, allowing also for the encoding of the sound track in multi-channel format, even when recording from 2.0 sources.

Of course, you’ll find a Play section with which you can record DVD video discs (compatible with Dolby Digital and DTS streams), as well as CD audio, CD-R and CD-RW. It should be underlined that there’s a double lens, one part of which is dedicated uniquely to DVD. Neither release date nor price have been communicated by the lads from Panasonic for the moment, although word’s out that the machine will probably hit the streets of Japan in September.
