By Datel Region X
Finally some good news for people with PSX2 machines… at the end of the month, the Datel company, (specialists in games accessories) will be launching a new accessory that will allow your console to be compatible in play mode with DVD’s encoded in DVD Zones 1 and 2.
While, for a few weeks now, it’s been possible to “dezone” your PSX2 via a hardware modification (change of an EEPROM), it will soon be possible to dezone your console via software.
With a key and a simple CD
The manipulation is very simple, as all one has to do is to slip an electronic key (the X-Key) into one of the Memory card ports and then to launch the Region X CD-ROM delivered in the kit. One of the main advantages of this is that you avoid opening the machine and thus immediately losing your guarantee.
Moreover, while in itself this seems less unpleasant than an electronic intervention, it should be understood that the software on the disk can only temporarily sort out questions of dezoning, the latter losing its efficiency as soon as the machine goes into stand-by mode.
While this manipulation is advantageous thanks to its execution and its price, you have to put up with the fact that you’ll have to have the CD-ROM handy any time you want to watch a DVD encoded in Zone 1.
Set for release at the end of the month, Region X, will be available through most worthy retailers for a price of around 30 Euros.
