The growth in VCR sales in the UK continues to surprise the trade. Volume sales in the month of March showed an 8.4% increase on March 2000. This brings the market size for the 12 months ending March to 3.8 million pieces.

It is clear that the strong DVD sales are not impacting on VCR and the two products are are complimentary rather than competing. The trend for heavy price declines in VCRs shows no sign of slowing with average prices decreasing by 13% in the year to March. Clearly one of the key factors keeping sales volumes strong is the value for money that a VCR represents, the product is now just a commodity item.
