A Zest of Technology

JJ Lab, the French loudspeaker manufacturers, continue to win over the Home Cinema public. It was thus with a veritable concern for technical and commercial development that the Cobalt Line was renewed, as has been the case with the Opal and Tantal ranges.

Until now tagged as an “upper crust only” manufacturer, with very little presence on the lower to midrange marketplace, JM Lab, who previewed the future replacement of the Cobalt line at CES 2001 in Las Vegas, confirming their will to open up to a broader public, in proposing this new range with a variety of uncommon finishes… enough to help the Frenchie of the sound industry to meet the demands of a market in which product, quality of finish, performance and price are the key words.

The new Cobalt line thus finds itself with a new “skin”, benefiting from a more than innovative spec. sheet, in both the technical and design departments. The result is an elegant composition, characterised by a casing in reinforced wood, enveloped by plating in brushed aluminium (available in three colours). Furthermore, the structure itself has been added to with side sections in real wood, giving it airs of its big sister, the Electra.

The Cobalt range is made up of the following elements:

- The "W" membrane (which, you may remember, was developed for the Utopia);

- a new filter, called the OPC (with optimal phasing) allowing for the optimisation of the link between midrange and high frequency;
- the inverted titanium dome tweeter ;

- The possibility of bass level adjustment, using a sponge tube which is inserted in the vent.

This new ensemble, made up of a complete line (two columns, one central, one bookshelf, one surround and one active subwoofer), is marketed at ultra competitive rates:
