Streaming music service Spotify has a new rival in the shape of Rara.

Rara offers an easy to navigate interface with pre-programmed stations of music which the company claims helps people to find the music they want to listen to more easily.

The service has been set-up by the founder of Omnifone, which currently powers music services for the likes of Sony and Research in Motion, and offers 10 million tracks.

Unlike Spotify or Last.fm, Rara Music doesn’t offer a free option, but there are two tiers of subscription – £5 or £10 per month.

The more expensive service includes mobile access, with an Android app available now and iOS and Windows Phone apps to follow next year.

Features include celebrity playlists by the likes of Imogen Heap with others to follow

PC maker HP plans to integrate the service into some of its computers and is offering trials at reduced rates.

Rob Lewis, executive chairman of Omnifone, which runs Rara, said, “The service will be easy to use for you and your grandmother. Users don’t want to be faced with a spreadsheet.”
