Ford is cutting back on the in-car CD players it offers with its latest models, in favour of USB or Bluetooth connections to its customers’ portable music players.
The latest Ford Focus will come with DAB radio, but no multi-disc CD player, instead using the company’s new Ford Sync music system.
The Ford Sync system promises “a sophisticated multimedia infotainment hub providing connectivity options including multiple USB inputs, SD card ports, RCA inputs and Bluetooth connectivity”.
The new system will also work as a wireless hotspot for up to five devices using your smartphone’s internet connection. Ford says this could allow the system to access online music services in future.
Ralf Brosig, multimedia manager, Ford of Europe, said: “Ford will obviously continue to offer CD players while there is demand. However, over time we expect customer preferences will lead us quickly into an all-digital approach to in-car audio entertainment.”
