Onkyo has announced the BDP-SP809 3D-capable Blu-ray player with network streaming and THX certification.

It comes with two HDMI outputs and uses Marvell’s Odeo processing technology for de-interlacing and upscaling standard def content 1080p HD. It can also play DivX HD, MP3 and WMA content from CD and DVD discs, and it has a USB port for playing audio and video files from a storage device.
You can stream content from a networked PC or NAS drive via the Ethernet port, and it’s received home cinema THX certification because of its “superior build quality, versatile functionality, and high performance levels”.
There are separate blocks for video and audio circuitry within the mammoth 6kg casing and there are component and composite video outputs, optical and electrical digital outs, stereo audio out and infrared and RS232 control connections.
The Onkyo BDP-SP809 will be available in silver or black later in August for £500.
