DoubleTwist brings AirPlay to Android devices

10 mai 2011

Software developer DoubleTwist has augmented its app to deliver Apple AirPlay style functions via Android smart phones.

DoubleTwist-Player

Apple’s AirPlay makes it easy to wirelessly stream audio directly from your computer to an enabled hi-fi system, and control it via your iPhone/iPod/iPad.

DoubleTwist AirSync allows you to do the same from Android devices, though with some limitations. You can stream music or video directly to your handset, but there are no audio devices dedicated to it.

The app’s latest update does however mean that you can stream media to an Apple TV and to computers using Windows Media Player 12 via your home Wi-Fi network.

There’s been no reaction from Apple yet, though it’s expected the company may try to block the app’s abilities, either via a lawsuit, or an upgrade that prevents it streaming to Apple TV.

DoubleTwist AirSync is available now from the Android Market for £3.04.
