The Government has announced plans to introduce a new energy labelling system for electrical goods, including TVs, from 20th June.
The new labels will be added to the existing labelling but will use A+ and A++ ratings, with a maximum of A+++ (A triple plus) coming into use as and when products matching that score become available. They’ll also show the amount of energy used by each product in kWh.
The ratings will be supported by a press campaign including a YouTube video to explain what they mean and how to recognise them, as well as point-of-sale leaflets in shops. The ratings are also expected to appear in advertisements.
Other products covered by the scheme include washing machines, fridges, freezers and dishwashers, with boilers and vacuum cleaners following later.
Caroline Spelman, the environment secretary, said: "“Consumers want to make the right decisions when buying new goods that use less energy and bring down household bills. These new energy saving ratings will help people make the right choice when out shopping for TVs and white goods by choosing those which are rated the darkest green on the labels.”
