HTC’s latest smart phone will be the first to feature the company’s HTC Watch TV on demand service.

It will run on the latest Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) operating system and will include an extra-fast Qualcomm dual-core 1.2GHz engine, supported by 768MB of RAM.

The large 4.3in display set in a unibody aluminium casing features 540×960-pixel resolution and is covered by extra-tough Gorilla glass. There’s also an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 1080p video recording (still very rare on smart phones), plus an HDMI output which allows you to stream material directly from the phone to your TV.

HTC Watch is a movie streaming service with its own app, offering progressive downloads, so you can begin watching rented or bought content straight away, while the rest of the film streams from the internet in the background.

HTC has apparently inked deals with all of the major Hollywood studios to offer ‘hundreds’ of movies and TV shows to download or rent, though price details are yet to be announced.

Content will be stored in and streamed from a cloud-based digital locker, and HTC Watch (which will also be available on HC’s Flyer tablet later in the year) will allow users to access purchased content from up to five compatible devices.

The HTC Sensation should be available in mid-May on Vodafone.
