Q: Why is there no DAB in cars?
Martin Dainty

Pure Highway

A: There is actually, though the take-up of DAB in cars has been chronically slow so far, and is seen by many pundits as a key reason for the delay in digital switchover (currently touted as 2015, but likely to slip back).

There are a few DAB radios available for cars as add-ons, like Pure’s Highway, designed to be stuck to the windscreen, and a few in-dash models from JVC but as yet the market is distinctly under-served.

DAB is however increasingly being offered as an optional extra with new cars though few offer it as standard. One exception looks like being Ford’s new Focus, The company has just announced that all versions of its new Focus will come with a DAB radio as standard from March this year.

Sony DAB radios will come with the Focus Edge, Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X models, which also come with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
