The mobile phone-sized device is being pushed as a rival to Apple’s iPod Touch and comes with a 3.2in touch screen, 2 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi connectivity.

It runs on the Android operating system (version2.1 though, as opposed to Galaxy Tab’s 2.2) and will be available in 8GB and 16GB sizes. It includes DLNA support for wireless media sharing, as well as a microSD card slot for adding up to 32GB of additional memory and a changeable battery.

It claims to be able to offer 30 hours of audio playback and 5 hours of video, and supports MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV and FLAC audio files, as well as MPEG4, DivX and Xvid video files.

Other features include GPS (with Google Maps Navigation), an E-Book Reader, BBC iPlayer, YouTube and FM radio.

The Samsung Galaxy Player is available in white only for £150 (8GB) or £180 (16GB) from Friday 7 January 2011.
